Microsoft finally adds the Paste Text Only shortcut in Word

After a long wait, Microsoft Word users will now have a new and much-needed keyboard shortcut that makes formatting text a lot easier.

As announced on the Microsoft 365 Insider blog, the Microsoft Word application on both Windows and Mac platforms will be added a shortcut called Paste Text Only with a very familiar typing operation: Ctrl + Shift + V (Windows) ) and Cmd + Shift + V (Mac). Microsoft talks about this new addition as follows:

You may be familiar with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + V ( Cmd + Shift + V on Mac ) — also known as 'keep text only' or 'paste plain text' — do its popularity in other applications such as Microsoft Teams, Word for web, Google and Gmail. The good news is that this shortcut is now also available in Word for Windows and Word Mac platforms, giving you unquestionable convenience in word processing tasks.

In fact, the Paste Text Only keyboard shortcut is not quite ready for mass adoption yet. Microsoft's blog post says the feature is currently only available to Microsoft 365 Home and Business Standard Beta Channel users on the following versions of Windows and Mac:

  1. Windows: Version 16.0.15831.20174 or later
  2. Mac: Version 16.67.1113.0 or later

The blog post also points out that users can access the settings menu to get rid of any bulleted numbers and symbols that can be copied into the Paste Text Only shortcut.

With the appearance of the new Paste Text Only shortcut, some other keyboard shortcuts of Word will be changed. Here's an introduction to the new settings:
