In 2003, Mark Zukerberg , a second-year student at Harvard University, built a website called Facemash .

" Facemash " is a hot and ' not very stylish ' website. Mark Zuckerberg used the photo of a classmate he hacked from the dorm's ID system. , this Facemash website has 22,000 views from 450 people.
A few days later, Harvard University asked Zuckerberg to remove the site for copyright and safety reasons. Zuckerberg faced and received disciplinary punishment from Harvard's school but he was still allowed to stay at the school.

Cameron, Tyler Winklevoss and Dvya Narendra claim that Zuckerberg agreed to build a website called HarvardConnection.com for them before creating his own website. They even sued and settled in court in 2008.
As part of the deal, they received 1.2 million shares of Facebook. These shares are worth 300 million USD when Facebook has IPO.
Within a month, half of the students at Harvard University were registered as members of Thefacebook.

In March 2004, Thefacebook was expanded to universities such as Yale, Columbia and Stanford. Zuckeberg invited close classmates including: Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes to help develop the website into a business.
Only a few months later, the Facebook team made the first ad on the website.
