How to Use Swift Pair for Bluetooth Devices in Windows 10

Swift Pair lets Windows 10 display a connection notification when a compatible Bluetooth device is nearby and in pairing mode. Select Connect to pair it without opening the full device list.

Ordinary Bluetooth support is not enough: the peripheral must support Swift Pair. Check its manufacturer’s documentation rather than assuming a particular brand or price range qualifies.

Enable Swift Pair notifications

1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
2. Go to Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
3. Turn Bluetooth on.
4. Enable Show notifications to connect using Swift Pair if the option is available.

Microsoft introduced Swift Pair in Windows 10 version 1803. These instructions apply to Windows 10; for the newer Settings layout, see Swift Pair settings in Windows 11.

Pair the device

1. Charge or power on the mouse, keyboard, or headphones.
2. Put it into pairing mode using the manufacturer’s instructions. Simply switching it on may not make it discoverable.
3. Keep it near the computer and wait for the notification.
4. If Windows first asks whether to use Swift Pair, select Yes. Then select Connect when the device-found notification appears.
5. Confirm the device name and complete any additional pairing instructions. Test the connection.

If no notification appears

• Confirm that the peripheral specifically supports Swift Pair and remains in pairing mode.
• Check Bluetooth and notification settings on the PC.
• Move the device closer and check its battery.
• If it is connected to another computer or phone, disconnect it there before trying again.
• If Bluetooth controls are missing, start with the adapter checks in the missing Bluetooth button guide.

You can still use Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth to select a discoverable device manually. A missing Swift Pair prompt does not necessarily mean Bluetooth pairing is broken.
