How to Create and Edit Tables in Windows 11 Notepad

Windows 11 Notepad versions with table support let you organize short notes into rows and columns. Use the Table option in the formatting toolbar or enter Markdown table syntax directly.

Microsoft introduced the feature to Windows Insiders in Notepad version 11.2510.6.0 on November 21, 2025. That number is an app version, not a Windows release number. Check the options in your installed app rather than assuming every Windows 11 installation has the same interface.

Insert a table

1. Open Notepad and place the cursor where the table should go.
2. Choose Table in the formatting toolbar.
3. Select the required rows and columns. If your menu includes Insert table, use it to enter a size directly.
4. Click each cell and enter the headings and values.

Keep the first row descriptive—for example, Task, Owner, and Status. A small table is easier to maintain than a wide layout in a narrow note window.

Add or remove rows and columns

Right-click inside the table, or open the toolbar’s Table menu while the cursor is in it. Choose the appropriate row or column command. Confirm which row or column is selected before deleting it; undo the change immediately if you remove the wrong content.

Enter a Markdown table

A simple two-column example is:

If the Table option is missing

Update Notepad through Microsoft Store and check whether text formatting is enabled in its settings. An older or classic Notepad interface may show the Markdown as plain text. You can still save that text for use in a Markdown-capable editor.
