Although Microsoft's effort with the Windows 10 Mobile mobile segment is expected to fail, they do not want to pull out of this segment. Windows will no longer be available on mobile phones, but Microsoft hopes to create a new device that is temporarily defined as 'mobile', bringing the digital pen and ink experience to the forefront.
The two internal projects of Microsoft, CShell and Windows Core OS, will all play an important role in the new mobile device that the Internet is still called Andromeda.
So what is Andromeda and why do you care?
Andromeda folding device
According to rumors, Andromeda is a hardware prototype, a foldable tablet, running Windows 10 with Windows Core OS and CShell to take advantage of screen folding. Perhaps CShell will play an important role in this ability to fold. Calling a tablet doesn't make much sense because you can fold it and put it in your pocket like a phone.
Comparing Andromeda with the phone is because it also has the feature of calling and texting like a phone. So you can use it instead of your phone. However, Andromeda did not intend to replace the phone but would resemble a similar device that now has 'screened' Microsoft Courier. In short, Andromeda is a pocketbook.
Digital ink is the most important on Andomeda
Andromeda values digital pen and ink experience, with a number of prototypes open on the OneNote note application, supporting common ink usage options with Windows Ink. The note application also mimics how to write in a real notebook, with virtual pages spread on the device screen.
Naturally, because it is Windows, it will also have Start screen, Menu and run Microsoft applications like Edge or Photos.
Maybe Andromeda will run ARM, which means it will use the latest Snapdragon processor at this time. It is unknown if it will run Win32 but it will run UWP applications of course.
This is not a midsize device for all users. If, that is, if it goes to the market, it won't become a competitor to the iPhone and Android because Microsoft has said it before. Instead, Microsoft wants to create a new market for those who need such a device.
It's no surprise that you regularly monitor and know that Microsoft has applied for patents for devices folded about a year ago. Along with CShell, Windows Core OS and claims that Microsoft will not return to mobile, this will be a new device.
The folding device has been patented by Microsoft
Microsoft hardware partners will probably create similar folding devices. Microsoft also seems to be playing with the name Surface so that hardware makers know what this new product line will look like. Maybe it will be called the Surface Note or the Surface Journal?
The question is left open
There are many things we do not know about this device, for example it will have a foldable screen in the middle or two separate screens connected in some way? The specifications, dimensions, price, appearance and even the official name have not been disclosed.
It is not known how this device will fold
According to the source, if it really comes out, it will be in early 2018. Of course, Microsoft has not yet made an official statement so changes or cancellations are entirely possible.
If Microsoft does not cancel this case, it seems the future for their efforts seems bright. Will we finally get the Microsoft Courier that we still want?
