Amazingly, mutants eat 10 days completely under water

After a few hours under the water, the skin of the human limbs is often wrinkled as the cells inflate. So people are completely underwater for 10 days, what will happen?

  1. Discover human limits through 5 senses
  2. Why do human thumbs only have 2 burns?
  3. What happens inside the human body when it is about to drown?

In 2002, a man named Tim Yarrow set a world record by immersing himself in a small pool in a South African center for 10 days, 240 hours.

The longest domestic record ever belonged to England's Michael Stephens with 212 hours and 30 minutes, achieved in 1986.

In order to stay in the country for a long time, Tim had to find ways to solve air, eating and secretion problems. Specifically, he had to use a diving device to maintain oxygen, eat a low-fiber diet through a tube, attach a catheter to remove waste from the body.

After 10 days in the water, the most astonishing change to Yarrow's body was that his hand was wrinkled like a hot piece of sausage.

The reason is that the human skin surface is covered in dead keratin cells and they absorb water faster than any other cell. Besides, the surface skin is also attached to the keratin cells living below, so it often bulges and wrinkles when staying long in the water.

If staying in water for too long, this reaction can seriously affect human health. The skin can "die" and decompose, making us vulnerable to infection.

Fortunately, after this record set, Yarrow's hands recovered completely and were not hurt. This is a miracle that ordinary people can hardly get after living 10 days underwater.
