The supported way to listen to Spotify music without audio ads is to use an eligible Spotify Premium plan. Premium also provides offline music downloads in supported apps, playback control, and other plan-dependent features. A VPN, proxy, music converter, ad blocker, or modified Spotify app is not a reliable substitute and can create account, privacy, security, or copyright problems.

Use Spotify Premium for ad-free music
- Sign in at Spotify using the account you want to upgrade.
- Open the Premium plan page for your country.
- Compare the number of accounts, eligibility rules, billing period, audiobook allowance, and offline-download support shown for each plan.
- Select a plan and complete payment through Spotify or an authorized app-store billing flow.
- Open the Spotify app, confirm the plan under your account, and restart playback.
Spotify's Premium Individual guide lists current core benefits such as ad-free music, offline listening, and on-demand playback. Prices, promotions, and plan names vary by country, so use the offer displayed for your account rather than an old quoted price.

Choose the right plan
| Plan type | Who it is for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | One listener | Current price, included features, and trial eligibility |
| Student | One verified eligible student | Verification process and renewal requirements |
| Duo | Two eligible people at the same address | Household rules and separate accounts |
| Family | An eligible household with multiple accounts | Address rules, account limit, and child or managed-account options |
| Basic or regional variants | Markets where Spotify offers a narrower plan | Whether music downloads, audiobooks, or other benefits are excluded |
Plan availability and benefits can change. For a practical comparison, see Which Spotify Subscription Is Best for You?.
Use a trial carefully
Spotify may offer a trial or introductory price to eligible accounts. Before starting:
- read the eligibility and end date;
- note the regular renewal price and billing date;
- confirm whether the plan changes immediately if you cancel during a zero-price trial;
- set a reminder if you do not want automatic renewal.
A “free Premium” offer from an unrelated website, APK, code generator, or social-media message is not a safe trial. Do not provide your Spotify password or payment details outside Spotify or the authorized store handling the subscription.
Download music for offline listening
Premium subscribers can download supported albums, playlists, and podcasts inside the Spotify app:
- Connect to Wi-Fi if you want to avoid mobile-data use.
- Open the playlist or album.
- Select Download and wait for the completion indicator.
- Open Spotify settings and enable Offline mode when needed.
Spotify's offline listening guide explains current device and track limits and the periodic online check required to keep downloads. These downloads remain inside Spotify; they are not ordinary MP3 files that can be moved to any player.
Why you might still hear advertising on Premium
Premium removes Spotify audio ads from music, but not every spoken promotion is a separate Spotify ad. Podcast episodes may contain host-read sponsorships or other creator-inserted promotions. Depending on the content and plan, podcasts can also have advertising rules that differ from music.
If you hear ads between ordinary music tracks:
- Open your Spotify account page and confirm that Premium is active on the account currently signed in.
- Sign out of Spotify on all devices, then sign in again.
- Update the app and restart the device.
- Check whether playback is coming from another linked account or shared speaker.
- Record the track, time, device, and ad behavior, then contact Spotify Support if it continues.
Do not use a VPN to chase fewer ads
Connecting through another country does not guarantee fewer ads. It can slow playback, trigger location or account checks, conflict with regional availability, and expose traffic metadata to the VPN provider. It also does not turn a Free account into Premium.

The screenshot above is retained as a legacy reference, not a recommendation. Choose a VPN for a documented privacy or network need, not as an ad-removal shortcut.
Avoid converters and modified Spotify apps
Third-party “Spotify converters,” modded APKs, patched desktop clients, and credential-based download services can:
- violate Spotify's terms or content licenses;
- request your Spotify password or session token;
- bundle malware, adware, or unwanted browser extensions;
- produce incomplete or mislabeled files;
- stop working when Spotify changes its service;
- put the account at risk of restriction.
Use Spotify's built-in download feature for offline listening. If you need DRM-free audio files, buy or download music from a service that explicitly licenses files for that purpose.
Do not change the Mac proxy to an unsupported region
A random proxy can inspect connection metadata, inject pages, fail unexpectedly, or break other apps. The original proxy method below is obsolete and does not guarantee an ad-free account.

If you previously added a proxy only for this purpose, remove it from the relevant network service and return the proxy setting to its prior state. On a work or school Mac, contact the administrator before changing managed settings.
Can a browser ad blocker remove Spotify ads?
A content blocker may alter the Spotify web player, but it is not a supported way to obtain Premium features. Audio ads can be delivered through the same service as music, filters can break playback, and results change. Blocking or automating the service may also conflict with Spotify's User Guidelines.
Do not disable security controls or install an unsigned extension to make a filter work. If the free tier's advertising is unacceptable, use Premium, choose a different licensed service, or listen to media you own.
Cancel or change Premium
Open your Spotify account page, select Manage your plan, and follow the option to change or cancel. Premium usually remains active until the end of the paid billing period, but trial behavior can differ. Keep the confirmation email and verify the next billing status after making a change.
If you are comparing alternatives rather than only Spotify plans, this Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music comparison outlines the broader tradeoffs.
