OpenAI pauses plans to deploy ChatGPT Voice Mode

In a press conference held in May, OpenAI revealed a very interesting addition that the company is planning to deploy: a new Voice Mode for the AI ​​model that creates ChatGPT.

 In shared demos, users can talk to ChatGPT using natural voice commands, and the AI ​​model can respond using its own voice. The company's initial plan was to launch Voice Mode for ChatGPT Plus users in select countries and regions by the end of June.

Recently, in an official post on the X social network account, OpenAI announced that it would delay the launch of ChatGPT Voice Mode for at least another month, that is, until the end of July. The company explained The reasons for this delay are as follows:

OpenAI's current plan is to let a small group of Plus users test Voice Mode at the end of July. After that, the company says all users signed up for the ChatGPT Plus paid subscription will be able to use it. You can use Voice Mode this fall.

The ChatGPT Voice Mode demo revealed in May led many to believe that the OpenAI-generated voice sounded very similar to that of Scarlett Johansson, the voice actress of the fictional AI chatbot Samantha in the 2013 film Her. A few days later , Scarlett Johansson herself also posted a statement, saying OpenAI tried to recruit her to digitize voices for ChatGPT Voice Mode, but she refused.

For its part, OpenAI has denied that the "Sky" voice used in the ChatGPT Voice Mode demo was sampled after Johansson's voice. However, the company has decided to pause the use of that digital voice for now.
