OpenAI currently offers four ChatGPT subscription levels to meet the needs of different customer groups. For individual users, ChatGPT offers Free and Plus plans. For business users, ChatGPT currently offers Team or Enterprise plans.
ChatGPT Plus is currently the most popular subscription plan among the ChatGPT user community, costing $20 per month and offering the following benefits:
- All features included in the Free package
- Early access to new features like Canvas
- Access to OpenAI o1-preview, OpenAI o1-mini
- Access to GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, GPT-4
- Up to 5x messages for GPT‑4o
- Access data analytics, file uploads, web browsing, and visualizations
- Access to Advanced Voice Mode
OpenAI today announced a new paid Pro plan for ChatGPT customers. The new plan will cost a hefty $200 per month, and will include a number of exclusive benefits in addition to the capabilities already available in the Plus plan. OpenAI describes the new Pro plan as a solution that offers the best of OpenAI at an 'affordable' price point.
Features of the new ChatGPT Pro package include:
- All capabilities included in the Plus package
- Unlimited access to o1, o1-mini and GPT-4o
- Unlimited access to enhanced voice
- Access o1 pro mode, which uses more computing power to get the best answers to the toughest questions. Compared to both o1 and o1-preview, o1 pro mode performs better on challenging tasks in math, science, and coding.
In short, the Pro plan is aimed at people who use OpenAI's AI models for technical work. For example, the o1 pro mode utility will be "most useful for complex math, science, or programming problems." OpenAI says it will add more features to the Pro plan over time.
While the features of ChatGPT Pro seem impressive, the significant 10x price increase over the Plus plan raises concerns about the true value of this subscription plan. It is uncertain whether users will find the Pro plan worth the investment. If the ChatGPT Pro project is successful, OpenAI's pricing strategy could have implications for the broader market for global AI language modeling.
