Microsoft allows removing Microsoft account passwords, starting the passwordless trend
Recently, Microsoft announced that regular users can now remove their Microsoft account password. Microsoft is moving towards a future where users of its services will no longer need passwords, a passwordless future.
Instead of using passwords, users will now use more secure authentication methods such as the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello or physical keys. Besides the old accounts, now if you create a new account you also have the option to not use a password.
To remove the password from your Microsoft account, follow these steps:
- Go to the Advanced Security Options page of your Microsoft account
- Enter login information if asked
- Account verification if required
- Find the Additional security section
- Click Turn on in the Passwordless account section
- Follow the steps required by Microsoft
According to Microsoft, passwords are a weak security method because people's habit of setting passwords is too easy to guess. Even with 30-year-old tools, hackers can still easily figure out the user's password.
Therefore, do not use passwords - passwordless is a trend of the future with advantages such as more secure, more convenient. Not just for ordinary consumers, Microsoft says it will soon provide the necessary technologies to remove passwords for Azure AD accounts.
Once deployed, Azure AD system IT admins can set up password requirements, enable password removal, or completely remove passwords for different user sets.
