How to use Launchpad on MacBook is very simple
For many MacBook users , Launchpad is a very useful feature, giving them quick access to applications on the machine. And if you are a beginner to using MacBook, this article will show you how to use Launchpad very simply with just a few steps.
Launchpad is the full display of the apps currently installed on your Mac, and it looks like the home screen of a magnified iPad .
In addition to having quick access to apps here, you can also manually organize apps into folders to your liking.
1. How to Open and Close Launchpad
Currently, there are 3 ways to open Launchpad on MacBook, specifically as follows.
- Method 1: Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to open Launchpad. Repeat the operation to close Launchpad.
Note:
- The Launchpad icon from macOS Catalina and earlier versions will be in the shape of a rocket.
- The Launchpad icon from the macOS Big Sur version will have a square with 9 colored cells inside.
- Method 2: Pinch four fingers on the Trackpad to open Launchpad on the device. Place four fingers up and spread them out to close Launchpad.
- Method 3: Press the F4 key (MacBook version without Touch Bar ) on the keyboard to open Launchpad. Press the F4 key again to turn off Launchpad.
In case if you are using the F4 keys to function as an F4 key in the basic keyboard, you can hold down the fn + F4 button to access Launchpad.
2. How to find and open apps in Launchpad
In the 'forest' of apps available within Launchpad, you can find the app you're looking for with just a few clicks.
Click on the Search Box > Type the name of the application to search > Click on the application.
3. How to move and arrange apps in Launchpad
The scientific rearrangement of applications in Launchpad helps to increase your work efficiency significantly. Similar to how to do it on iPhone / iPad, you do the following.
Press and hold the application for a while until the applications next to it vibrate, or press the Option key > Drag and drop the application to other applications to create a folder.
You keep repeating this operation until you get the folder you want!
Note: You can do the same thing to move the app's location in the folder, or take the app out of the folder.
You can also change the name of the folder by clicking on the folder title > Type the name of the folder you want.
4. How to Add Launchpad Apps
Currently, there are two ways to add apps to your MacBook, including how to get the app on the App Store and how to get it from a third-party browser.
If you download apps on the App Store, those apps are automatically moved into Launchpad.
If you download the application from the browser, during the installation process, there will be a message board. Here, you can drag and drop your application into Applications. Then the app you just installed will be in Launchpad.
5. How to remove apps from Launchpad
It should be noted that you can only delete apps downloaded from the App Store. You can't delete native Apple apps . Also, third-party apps cannot be removed this way.
Press and hold an app for a while until the apps next to it vibrate, or press the Option key > Press the x button next to it > Tap Delete.

6. How to Reset Launchpad on MacBook
In case you need to reinstall Launchpad on your device, follow these steps.
- Step 1: You click on the main screen to return to Finder> Press the Option button, and at the same time, click Go on> Click Library (Library).
- Step 2: Select the Application Support folder > Click the Dock folder.
- Step 3: Select all .db files > Move to trash.
- Step 4: Select the Apple icon > Click Restart.
