What devices run iOS 6?
In addition to the newly released iPhone 5 with iOS 6 installed, you can also upgrade some more Apple devices to the latest version of the iOS platform. Here is the complete list:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPod Touch (4th and 5th generation)
- iPad 2
- The New iPad (3rd generation iPad)
The features are limited
There are some new features in iOS 6 that only work on a few devices. For example, Siri only works on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd generation) and iPod touch (5th generation). Detailed navigation (turn-by-turn) feature thanks to GPS navigation system only works on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and iPad 3rd generation with the ability to transmit data via mobile network. Panorama feature (Panorama) is only available on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation).
How to update to iOS 6
You have 2 basic options: Update wirelessly via Wi-Fi (OTA) or update via iTunes. Before starting, back up your device.
If you update according to the OTA method, go to Settings> General> Software Update and select iOS 6 . Wait until the device restarts (should plug the charger cord to connect the device to the source, especially if the battery is low). A few more touches to the screen (when prompted) to complete the installation.
Installing by using iTunes will be faster. Simply start the device (with a network connection), in the left column select and tap iTunes> Check for Updates to get the latest version. Choose Download and Update and continue through several setup screens and wait. Keep in mind that your device must always be connected until it restarts, then run through a few other setup screens as the update is complete.
In order for the upgrade to go smoothly, remember that you should not disconnect the charger cord from the device or the power or shutdown the device during the upgrade process.
Problems may occur after updating to iOS 6
1. Show the message Cannot connect to iTunes store ( Cannot connect to the iTunes store )
If you encounter this message when you tap the App store link in Passbook, don't worry. You can try to fix the following:
Go to Settings> General> Date and Time> Set Automatically> Off .
Next, set the time up to one year to 2013. Go back and try updating the application again. If you still receive the error message, go back to Settings> General> Date and Time> Set Automatically> On .
2. Wi-Fi issues
Some users said they had problems connecting to Wi-Fi networks after updating to iOS 6. Although this problem has now been resolved, if someone still meets, it can be resolved by Switch Wi-Fi back and forth between on and off. If it still doesn't work, try turning off Wi-Fi, restart the device before turning on Wi-Fi again.
3. Can't hear music
Some users said they had trouble hearing the music after updating to iOS 6. Although Playlist, Album and Artists were all displayed correctly, they could not play songs. It seems that the Music app has trouble finding them. When asked, Siri also could not find the song.
You can see the discussion on this issue at Apple's support website, but there is no solution other than restoring it. That means, delete the content and then restore it from what was backed up. The problem seems to be related to iTunes Match.
