How to Reset Windows 7 Password
If you forget your Windows 7 password, you will have to reset your user account password to log in. Windows 7 passwords can be reset by your network administrator if your computer is in a domain, or can be reset using a password reset disk if your computer is in a HomeGroup or workgroup. This article will teach you to reset Windows 7 password in both ways.
Reset Windows 7 Password for Domain Computers
Click on your computer's "Start" menu.
Select "Control Panel".
Select "User Accounts" in Control Panel.
Select "User Accounts" again, then select "Manage User Accounts".
Type the administrative password for your domain.
Click the tab labeled "Users."
Look for the name of the user account that needs to reset the password under the section called, "Users for this computer."
Click "Reset Password" next to the user name.
Type a new password at the prompt, then retype the password to confirm.
Click "OK." The Windows 7 password for your user account will now be reset.
Create a Password Reset Disk
Insert a removable drive into your computer, such as a flash drive.
Click the "Start" button, then select "Control Panel."
Click "User Accounts and Family Safety."
Select "User Accounts".
Click "Create a password reset disk" from the left panel of User Accounts. Forgotten Password Wizard will appear on the screen.
Click "Next" in the wizard, and select your removable drive from the drop-down window.
Type your current Windows 7 password, then click "Next."
Click "Finish."
Remove the portable hard drive from the computer, and store it in a safe place. You will need this portable hard drive in case you forget your Windows 7 password.
Reset Windows 7 Password Using Password Reset Disc
Insert the removable drive containing the password reset information into your computer.
Click "Reset password" below your user account after Windows 7 has confirmed that you entered the wrong password. Password Reset Wizard will display.
Click "Next," and select the name of the removable drive that contains Windows 7 password reset information.
Click "Next," and type a new Windows 7 password in the fields provided.
Click "Next," then click "Finish."
Remove the removable drive from your computer. You will now be able to log in to your Windows 7 user account using your new password.
