How to fix zoom in and out error in Word?

The zoom in and out feature in Microsoft Word allows users to adjust the size of the document view for easier reading or editing. However, sometimes you may find that the zoom feature is blurry or not working. Here are some reasons why the zoom feature in Word is disabled and how to fix it.

 

1. View document in multi-page mode

The zoom feature in Word is available only when you view the page in portrait orientation, and Word automatically turns off all zoom-related features in landscape view.

To change the view mode, click on the View tab and then click on Vertical mode to view the document, turn off Side to Side view mode. Then you will see the document zoom bar.

2. Document protected with Reading Mode

When a Word document is opened in read mode for content protection purposes, zooming options are limited.

To use the zoom bar in Word again, you must remove this security mode. Click Review > Protect Restrict Editing and then click Stop Protection.

3. Word document in shared mode

When collaborating in real time using OneDrive or SharePoint, some view settings including thumbnails may be limited.

You will then need to save a local copy of the document and open the document in another mode to reuse the zoom bar if needed.

4. Check add-ins in Word

Add-ons in Word improve productivity, but sometimes they can affect your document if they go wrong, such as disabling the zoom feature.

First you start Word in Safe Mode by holding down the Control key while starting Word to see if zoom is enabled again.

If so, an add-on may be the cause. You may need to remove all add-ons and enable them one by one to find out where the error is coming from.

We go to File > Options > Add-ins and click the Go button next to Manage > COM Add-ins. Then uncheck each add-on to disable it.

Note go to File > Info and click the Manage COM Add-ins button to find the add-ons that affect Word functionality.

5. Word Error

Sometimes, the zoom function can be disabled due to Word. We restart Microsoft Word or restart the computer to fix the error.
