Google 'abandoned' free photo editing tool
Google has decided to disavow Nik Collection, a free set of photo editing tools that users are looking forward to when they launch.
Nik Collection is not completely deleted, so users can download and use it normally. However, Google has decided not to continue developing this toolkit, making Nik Collection's future still a blur. Nik Collection is a set of plugins used with popular photo editing software like Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture. This suite includes 7 plugins that bring filters to change photo colors, reduce noise, sharpen images .
Google acquired Nik Collection in 2012 along with Snapseed. At that time, Nik Software sold Nik Collection for $ 500 but Google dropped to only $ 150. Then, in 2016, Google officially launched a price of $ 0, turning Nik Collection into a tool that is completely free for users.

Unfortunately, turning into a free app has affected Google's commitment to Nik Collection. As PetaPixel points out, the company no longer commits to use any resources to invest in Nik Collection. Even Windows 10 is no longer officially supported.
Google recently added banner on Nik Collection saying "Nik Collection is free, compatible with MacOS X 10.7 to 10.10, Windows Vista, 7, 8 and Adobe Photoshop to CC 2015. We have no plans to update or add New feature".
Although users can still download and use normally on Mac and Windows, Google does not update, it will no longer be compatible with new OS in the future. If Google does not let Nik Collection into open source products, the future of this plugin is still very obscure. This must make users still using Nik Collection to edit photos disappointed.
