Fix BOOTMGR error is missing when starting Windows
BOOTMGR error is missing is one of the common errors, users often encounter during Windows startup. So how to fix this error. Please refer to the following article of Network Administrator.
1. What is BOOTMGR?
BOOTMGR or Windows Boot Manager, is used to control the Windows boot process. BOOTMGR helps launch winload.exe when you start your computer to load Windows operating system.
The BOOTMGR error is missing only on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10. This error does not occur on Windows XP.
When BOOTMGR error is missing, there are often some messages such as:
- "BOOTMGR is missing - Press any key để khởi động."
- "BOOTMGR is missing - Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart."
- "Could not find BOOTMGR."
2. The cause of BOOTMGR error
There are many causes of BOOT MGR errors, such as error startup files, wrong files, hard drive errors, OS upgrade errors, obsolete BIOS errors, faulty hard drive areas, and cable faults. broken.
3. Fix BOOTMGR error is missing on Windows
- Use Windows Startup to fix Boot Volume error:
Restart your computer and press F8 or F12 key to activate Boot Settings.
On the next screen, choose to start your computer from a drive or USB drive.
After the boot process finishes, the screen will display the Install Windows interface. Here you select Language, Time and currency and Keyboard and click Next .
On the next interface, select Repair your computer and then select your operating system version and click Next.
Windows 7 : On the System Recovery Options window, select Startup Repair to automatically scan and fix Windows errors.
Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 : After clicking Repair your computer , select Troubelshoot and select Advanced options.
Next choose Automatic Repair (Windows 8 and 8.1) or Startup Repair (Windows 10) to start fixing your Windows computer.
After the process is complete, you will be asked to restart your Windows computer. Your task is to restart the computer.
- Write a new Boot Sector partition on Windows 7,8,8.1 and Windows 10:
If the "Boot Sector" partition is wrong or fails, your Windows computer will boot incorrectly and will display BOOTMGR error is missing during the boot process. In this case you can fix the error by writing a new Boot Sector partition.
On Windows 7: Access the System Recovery Options then select the Command prompt .
On Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10: From the Repair your computer window, select Troubleshoot => Advanced options => Command Prompt.
On the Command Prompt window, enter bootrec / fixboot into it and press Enter. At this point on the screen you will see the message The operation completed successfully.
Next restart your computer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.
In addition, if BCD (Boot Configuration Data) fails, . Windows cannot start. At this time the screen also displays the error message BOOTMGR is missing.
- Restore Windows computer to fix error BOOTMGR Error:
Faulty Windows system files can cause many different errors, one of which is BOOTMGR error is missing. In most cases when the Windows operating system fails, it will display a blue death screen.
To fix this, you can restore your computer from a backup image.
Note : If there is no backup image, you cannot use this method.
Also another reason may be the cause of BOOTMGR error is missing hard drive system partition is disabled. In this case, you can use Partition Wizard Bootable CD Free Editon to restart your computer.
Next select the partition, click on the Partition tab and choose Modify and then select Activate.
Sometimes in some cases the old version of BIOS may also be the cause of BOOTMGR error is missing. In these cases you can upgrade to the latest BIOS version to fix the problem.
