Zoom is about to launch End-To-End encryption for all users
Recently, Zoom said that it will soon offer End-To-End encryption to all users, including free users. Earlier, many human rights activists and users voiced opposition to Zoom for not being equipped with E2EE.
What is End-To-End Encryption?
End-To-End Encryption (E2EE) is a form of end-to-end data encryption used by online messaging and video calling applications. Thanks to E2EE, all conversations directly on the application such as messages, photos, calls, videos, audio, and a few other attachments . will be encrypted.
E2EE makes all information exchanged between users safe, even the founders and application providers cannot view the message content, eavesdrop on calls or steal information. whether they have been converted into a different character form, or different content.
Zoom E2EE implementation plan
Earlier this month, Zoom announced it would only offer E2EE to users who pay for their services. However, human rights activists have voiced opposition to this policy, requiring Zoom to equip E2EE for all users.
Just yesterday, the Mozilla platform, the Electronic Border Organization (EFF) and 19,000 users sent an open letter to Zoom, urging the company not to make privacy and security a luxury. In another letter, organizations fighting for the interests of users in cyberspace such as Fight for future and MPower Changer also expressed the same opinion.
This forces Zoom to make adjustments. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan acknowledges that his company has consulted with many encryption experts and government representatives about E2EE. "After consulting with many organizations, individuals and upgrading technology, we decided to provide E2EE to all users," said Yuan.
Zoom also says that free users will have to verify their phone numbers themselves. This will help Zoom prevent bad objects from creating many different accounts to serve nefarious purposes.
Zoom is expected to release a trial version of the E2EE feature by the end of July. This will be an option so users, who are in charge of the call, and presiding over an online video meeting, will have to enable / disable this feature manually. .
