Yahoo's search team is working hard to control its destiny by launching its own browser, called Axis.

Axis replaces the usual search result pages with a horizontal scrolling list, thumbnails of many websites.

Yahoo has just announced its participation in the web browser space with the new Axis browser. This browser has versions for iPad and iPhone and plug-in for desktop browser Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari.

According to E Than Batraski, Product Manager for Yahoo's Search Engine Development team, the design goal is to eliminate the intermediate step in the usual web search process: Enter a query, see the links fruit and go to a certain page. With Axis, you can go directly from queries to pages with search results, skip the step showing a series of results.

Axis provides a better way to get you right into a website while searching. This is a product that has a very positive impact on Yahoo's search engine. Yahoo still has revenue of more than $ 1 billion per year from the search department; in which the second step in the search process is the most profitable, because the search results page is where the company runs the ad.

But with Axis there are no search results pages. Instead, Batraski said when you type a query, the browser displays a horizontal array of thumbnail images of web pages, which looks very intuitive. You will move to the side and easily see one of the pages you are looking for, and you can go to that page right away. When you select a page, that page will display in full screen and hide the search on Axis. To review the titles and go to the other search results, simply drag the page down. The search box will appear for you to continue searching:

So there is actually a list of search results. It just looks more beautiful and clearer. Yahoo can still install ads on the list of search results.

When asked if AT & T's many browsers like Flock, RockMelt, Opera, Pogo failed to try to compete in the browser market, why did Yahoo think this Axis product could compete with Chrome. Batraski said it was the power of distribution. Yahoo currently has 700 million users, and they are all subjects to promote this product. Moreover, Yahoo distributes browsers (mostly IE with Yahoo toolbar) to 80 million people each year. Axis on the desktop is not really a private browser but it is a plug-in that works with the browser the user is using. If you use the URL and search box of this plug-in in the lower left corner of the browser, you will have Yahoo results.

The Android version of Axis is still in development. But surely Google will not welcome Yahoo's browser. Google has two separate mobile browsers, Android browsers and an experimental Android version of Chrome. And these browsers are the driving force for Google's ads, not Yahoo.

Axis browsers may not 'invade ' the world, but it is a very powerful mobile product with a very great design for search engines. This is a very brave move by Yahoo in a difficult business situation.
