Microsoft announced that it will update the SkyDrive online storage application for both Windows and Mac platforms after about a month of being available as standalone software.
According to Microsoft, in this update there are noticeable changes:
- The SkyDrive for desktop application is an exciting new feature that will be available in the Windows 8 Release Preview version. From the image viewer application in Windows 8, users can view their photos stored on SkyDrive on any computer that has the SkyDrive app installed.
- SkyDrive for OS X Lion will no longer display the icon on the dock when the application is running. This according to user feedback is not required.
- Your SkyDrive folder is now updated faster and more reliable when changing on other devices, including SkyDrive.com.
- Limiting the total number of files in the SkyDrive folder is also increased to 10 million files instead of 150,000 files as before. This allows users to freely add files to their directory.
- Fix small errors to improve application reliability.
The above upgrades promise to bring users many utilities when using. It seems that Microsoft is accelerating in the " cloud-based " storage war with Google, Apple, Box and many other applications.
