Microsoft agrees that Copilot+ will be the new name for all Windows PCs with AI chips
After a long time and countless rumors, Microsoft finally officially announced the new Windows PC brand during a product launch event at the company's headquarters today. That would be PC Copilot+.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that major chip manufacturers such as Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. will all launch processor chip lines with AI-based chips specifically designed to run Windows and the virtual assistant Copilot. In addition, most of the world's leading computer companies, including Microsoft, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung and Lenovo., will produce Copilot+ PCs and launch dozens of models in all segments. different product segments this year.
Through this new brand announcement, Microsoft wants to announce to the world that PC Copilot+ will be a new era for Windows computer users, where every PC model will support superior AI capabilities. Copilot g excels through deep integration into key Windows components, thereby giving users a more optimal experience in all aspects.
In addition to Copilot, PC Copilot+ branded models will run more than 40 AI models as part of Windows 11 to support these new features. Microsoft's built-in AI assistant Copilot will also receive OpenAI's GPT-4o, which launched last week.
Yusuf Mehdi, executive vice president and head of consumer marketing at Microsoft, added that these new PCs will also be 'unbelievably thin, light and beautiful', coming with a ' breakthrough AI experience'.
According to Yusuf, the new Copilot+ PCs will be at least "58%" faster than MacBook Airs with Apple's M3 chip inside. However, there is no word yet on whether this superiority is for new PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon X chips or future processors from Intel or AMD, with these companies' own AI neural processors.
Of course any new standard will require a minimum level of hardware, with PC Copilot+ being:
- AI processing chip with power of at least 40 TOPS (for NPU only)
- Minimum 256GB SSD
- Minimum 16GB RAM
- Minimum battery life is 15 hours (web surfing) for computers running ARM chips.
Currently, these standards will probably only be suitable for Windows on ARM and laptop models using Qualcomm's platform (Snapdragon X Elite/Snapdragon X Plus), especially computer models using Intel and AMD platforms. maybe there will be a little difference.
Microsoft is trying to show customers that if they buy one of these Copilot+ PCs, they will get a series of additional benefits compared to a PC without an AI-based neural chip. The company expects about 50 million laptops bearing the new PC Copilot+ label to be sold on the market from now until the end of next year.
Microsoft is taking a partner-first approach to producing Copilot+ PCs. Along with chipmakers such as AMD, Intel and Qualcomm, several major OEMs including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo are also participating. The first Copilot+ laptops are available for pre-order now and they will ship on June 18. Starting price is 999 USD.
