TCL launches 4K screen with 1000Hz refresh rate
While the gloomy picture is covering the global display market, TCL has just turned itself into a bright star by introducing the world's first 4K resolution panel supporting 1000Hz scanning frequency.
This can be considered an important milestone, marking a great progress in high-frequency scanning panel technology, opening a new era for large-sized gaming screens. Especially in the context that more and more consumers in general and the gaming community in particular have a need to own higher refresh rate screens to make the gaming experience smoother.
Currently, the monitor with the highest refresh rate you can buy on the market is the Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP. This is a 24-inch FHD LCD screen with a 540Hz refresh rate, which is really huge. However, TCL can do more than that with a super sharp 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution panel and extremely smooth 1000Hz scanning frequency.
Accordingly, a subsidiary of TCL called TCL CSOT today introduced a screen prototype at the Display Week 2024 trade show in San Jose, California, USA. TCL CSOT has not revealed the name of the screen, but confidently claims this panel has an almost unbelievable 1000Hz refresh rate.
What's even more interesting is that TCL CSOT says the display is running at 4K resolution. Previously, many people speculated that a monitor with a 1000Hz refresh rate would launch at 1080p or 1440p resolution before going up to 4K, but TCL has made an incredible leap.
TCL has not yet revealed much information about this screen other than photos taken at the event showing a wide screen aspect ratio, and it will most likely still be an LCD panel.
Achieving such a high refresh rate on an LCD display is theoretically possible, as NVIDIA's Ultra Low Motion Blur 2 (ULMB 2) technology can deliver effective motion clarity above 1000. Therefore, at the software level, achieving 1000Hz is not a problem. The secret is being hidden on the hardware side, and we'll have to wait until TCL officially releases detailed information.
So when can you buy a screen with such a fast refresh rate? Most likely, this will not happen in the next few years. Even if everything is ready from a software perspective, on the hardware side no current GPU on the market can support a 1000Hz refresh rate. Therefore, we may have to wait until future faster GPUs are released.
