According to Neowin, Here Maps uses map data from NAVTEQ, which Nokia previously acquired, to compete with Google Maps. For a long time, this map service is only available on Windows Phone.
Previously, Here Maps also had an iOS version, released in November 2012. However, after a period of "reigning" on the App Store, Nokia removed the application from Apple's online store in late December 2013.
One thing to note, to use Here Maps, the device running Android must be from version 4.1 and above.
Currently, this application is still available for free on Google Play.
