Google Chrome begins rolling out features to save RAM and battery life for laptops
Back in December 2022, Google drew attention when it announced that the PC version of the Chrome web browser would soon be added with two new advanced features that benefit users on computers, especially especially for laptops.
At that time, Google only revealed that the above features would directly interfere with two main aspects affecting the Chrome user experience on laptops, which are multitasking and battery saving. After nearly 3 months, these two features are finally revealed: Memory Saver and Energy Saver, as part of the stable release of Chrome 110.
The first is Memory Saver. As the name suggests, this will be a useful feature if you often have to open many tabs on your Chrome browser without wanting them to be constantly reloaded. Usually, a large number of browser tabs open at the same time can cause RAM problems. However, when Memory Saver is activated, any tabs you're not actively using will be automatically removed from active memory by Chrome, until you click back on one of those tabs. If you'd like, you can also manually set up Memory Saver to exempt certain websites from the feature's coverage.
The Energy Saver feature, when set to default, automatically activates once your laptop drops below 20% battery. This feature will automatically limit any animations and videos on the web page that Chrome is currently open.
In fact, some other web browsers on the market also possess similar features, such as Microsoft Edge with Sleeping Tabs and Efficiency Mode. But it's undeniable that Google's addition of Memory Saver and Energy Saver to Chrome will make these types of features gradually become standard in all web browser platforms.
