Gemini brings audio text summarization tool to Google Docs.

Google introduced an audio summary feature in Docs, allowing users to listen to concise, AI-generated text summaries at adjustable speeds, along with different voice styles and the option to listen to the entire document.

Audio summarization tools create a concise, natural summary of a document's content, retaining the key points so that anyone listening can grasp the main idea.

Once you select this feature, Gemini will scan the entire content and create a voice summary, along with the "Listen to this tab" option to read the entire page aloud if you don't want to miss any details.

Google has also adjusted the voice to sound more natural. Users can also adjust the playback speed to suit their needs. Additionally, you can control other functions such as play, pause, and fast forward on the interface, as well as different voice styles, personalizing the material just like when listening to podcasts.

The audio text summarization feature in Google Docs is being rolled out gradually and is not yet available to free users. Currently, Google is limiting it to paid plans, including Workspace Business (Standard and Plus) and Enterprise (Standard and Plus), as well as certain AI add-ons (including Google AI Ultra and AI Pro).

Audio summarization can help improve your productivity, especially if you frequently multitask. However, users shouldn't rely too heavily on this feature, as document summarization can miss important details.
