Facebook launched the 3D Photo feature, turning 2D portrait images into vivid 3D
Since today, Facebook users around the world have been able to use the 3D Photo feature to transfer photos taken with Portrai mode (portrait removal of fonts) to more vivid 3D images. After 3D-style display switch users can tilt to observe photos from different angles.
The 3D Photo feature uses depth data to simulate ordinary images into 3D images. But basically these photos are not completely 3D, photos only change a bit to make the details of the subject in the picture become richer. To observe photos from different dimensions, users just need to move their finger to the photo.
To capture this kind of image with this effect, at least users must have a phone equipped with dual cameras (iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, iPhone X or Xs duo). After you upload the photos, Facebook's AI will create the rest of the image based on what the camera has obtained but does not show up.
To get a better understanding of how to get a 3D snapshot, you can follow the video below.
Facebook suggests users to take photos for 3D effects are best to stand about 0.9-1.2 meters away from the subject. In addition, the subject should stand away from the background with little detail behind.
Users can view 3D images right on their smartphones or through virtual reality glasses.
