The answer is NO. WhatsApp does not notify a user when you take a screenshot of your conversation with that user. You can take as many screenshots as you want, or even record a video of the chat screen without worrying about the other person being notified about it.

If you're worried someone will take screenshots of your chats without your knowledge, the bad news is that there's no way to know that. You won't receive any notifications or alerts if someone takes screenshots or records screencasts of chats in your presence.

However, there is an exception here: WhatsApp does not allow you to take screenshots of posts in the form of "View Once - View Once". If you send someone a "View Once" post or receive a post like this from someone, you won't be able to take a screenshot of that post. WhatsApp will display a message that prevents you from taking a screenshot.

Does WhatsApp notify you when you take a screenshot of your status (story)?

The answer is also NO. WhatsApp will not notify users that you have taken a screenshot of their status (story). You can take a screenshot or even a video of someone's status on the screen and the app won't notify them about it.

However, note that WhatsApp allows users to see who has viewed their status. Users can see you've seen their status, but they won't know if you've taken a screenshot of that status.

Does WhatsApp notify when you save a photo?

ARE NOT. WhatsApp doesn't notify you when you save a photo from a chat or status. However, for "Watch Once" posts, the sender will know that you opened their post or message.
