3 mistakes that can damage the Samsung S Pen
1. Don't carry your S Pen without a case!
When you buy the S Pen as an optional add-on, it comes with a carrying case. At first, many people thought this added unnecessary bulk, so they often tossed the pen in the bag next to the phone. This seemed fine until the pen stopped working.
What happened? Perhaps something pressed on the pen nib and broke it. Then you're left with a pen that can't write and can't be nibbed. It's useless!
An effective repair solution can be found on Reddit. However, while removing the broken nib, you may damage some of the electronics in the S Pen, causing the pen to operate unstable.
So, to avoid a similar situation, make sure you put the S Pen in the case unless the phone has a dedicated S Pen slot like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
2. Don't throw the S Pen around!
The interesting thing about folding screen devices is that you can do pretty much anything anywhere, even while lying in bed.
Imagine: You're using Samsung Notes on the Z Fold with the S Pen when you have to run to the bathroom. You put down your phone and pen and run away. When you turned around, you absent-mindedly returned to bed and heard a crunching sound. The S Pen was curled up in the blanket, right under the knee, and shattered.
There's no point trying to find a Reddit post to help. You have to continue using your phone without the awesome S Pen app you usually use.
Pay attention to where you place the S Pen! If you have a Galaxy Tab, place the S Pen back on the edge of the tablet using a magnet. But if you own a folding phone and don't have a separate space for the S Pen, remember to place it on a table or a safe place.
3. Don't buy the wrong S Pen!
In case you don't know, there are many types of S Pen. Don't try to use the Galaxy S24 Ultra's S Pen to write on the Z Fold 5; it won't work and could damage your expensive monitor. For folding screen phones, you need to buy S Pen Fold Edition.
So what does that have to do with damaging the stylus? S Pen Fold Edition has many versions. The S Pen for Z Fold 5 and Z Fold 6 has a different design than the S Pen for Z Fold 3 and Z Fold 4.
The S Pen for the Z Fold 5 and Z Fold 6 is much thinner - so thin that it bends when in use. So will it break down with daily use? The answer is no, but it is more fragile.
Fortunately, the Z Fold 5 is perfectly compatible with the old S Pen Fold version. Many people prefer the older model for reasons other than durability. It's a bit thicker and more similar to a regular pen, making it much more comfortable to hold. Sadly, it doesn't fit into the Z Fold 4's S Pen case.
At $50, Samsung's S Pen isn't cheap. And you might have to spend up to $100 to fix your broken S Pen. So please don't make the same mistakes as mentioned in the article.
