10 useful tips for work in 2011
TipsMake.com - The beginning of the new year is always an ideal time for you to plan your career promotion. Expert hiring manager and career consultant Kathryn Ullrich shared some tips on managing your work in the coming months.
1: Search for number 1
Be responsible for your own career development. Many large organizations have been interested in training and development - a common impact of the recession - and small companies can provide some significant support.
2: More strategic
There is a long-term career strategy, or the shortest, a sense of where you are headed. Try asking yourself, 'What do I really want to do', or 'Where can I see my future within the next 5 to 10 years?'. Look for people with the same position and ask for their reference ideas.
3: Follow step by step with the goals of the company
Connect small points from your role to the company's vision and important goals. Is your work in the same direction as the company? What can you do to maximize your contributions?
4: Consider customers as the focus
Whether your customers are inside or outside, capture what they want, they need and be sure to enthusiastically meet them. Bring customers' benefits back to your daily work and let it improve decisions and products.
5: Cooperation
Working together with and through others is essential to getting the results that are creative, innovative and productive. Accept a mindset when working as a team and collaborating and turn it into your daily routine.
6: Cultivate communication skills
Communication skills will help a lot for your work. Choose an area of interest - think of skills like listening, presentation, ability to influence, ability to persuade or gather opinions - and commit to improving it. Join a class, practice with a close friend or colleague, or join a group.
7: Cross function
Many successful executives increase through levels with cross-functional roles, such as switching from finance to sales, or from marketing to IT. Follow their lead and you can increase your skill, network and political capital.
8: Extend experience
Voluntarily participate in special projects or missions outside your daily role. Discuss your goals with your boss, a senior HR or leadership officer, and help find opportunities to expand your existing experience.
9: Find a guide
Consultants play an important role in influencing, and provide important advice for your career. Look for a potential advisor to your company or the industry you are following and see if they are open to advising you about a purpose or a certain period of time.
10: Connect - instantly!
The best time to increase your network is today. Get started right away, join groups, such as professional associations, charities or even teams. Turn to the role of leader and let everyone know about your proficiency.
Add a little tip: Special
Today, companies often look for professionals in a certain area, not generic employees. Develop a 'brand' for yourself, distinguish skills and strengths and decide how to market yourself best.
