YouTube videos suddenly fast forward to the end for users with ad blockers

Many users using ad blockers report that YouTube videos suddenly start fast forwarding to the end of the video.

That started last year with the platform displaying a message asking users to turn off ad blocking, which in turn blocked videos from playing after that prompt was ignored. That led to many people having to uninstall their ad blockers, as well as the emergence of some other clever workarounds.

This week, many people noticed YouTube videos suddenly skipping straight to the end. Even if the video has just been played back, it goes straight to the end almost immediately. It's a strange phenomenon and seems to only happen to users who have an ad blocker installed. With the blocker turned off, everything still works normally.

Users also reported that this happened while the video was playing and if you tried to skip to a certain part of the video, in some cases the video would load continuously.

Therefore, many people believe that this is a deliberate move by YouTube to discourage the use of ad blockers. That's entirely possible, but it's also possible that this is a problem with the ad blocker itself.

Earlier this year, a bug in AdBlock caused videos to load slowly and also put undue strain on computers running YouTube. When that problem emerged, many people accused YouTube of being the culprit. It's also worth noting that the people experiencing this latest issue were using AdBlock, while those using other ad blockers did not see the same phenomenon.
