Windows Store has 50,000 applications

Microsoft has finally reached the 50,000 mark on the Windows Store. On average, in March, 279 new applications were released.

March is the first month the rate of application development on the Windows Store increased after a long time of decline. Since November last year, this number has decreased quite rapidly. In November on average, there are 468 new applications posted on the Windows Store and peaked so far. In December, it dropped to 412 applications, then plummeted to 174 in January and only 142 in February.

The number of applications increased in March is said to be due to Microsoft's efforts to attract developers. The company has a program to donate $ 100 for each application written for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8, lasting from March 8 to June 30. Programmers are allowed to write up to 100 applications to receive a reward of 2000 USD in this program. However, only 10,000 applications will be accepted in the competition. Although the $ 100 for each app doesn't seem very appealing to developers, the revenue sharing rate that Microsoft offers is 80% for authors, 10% higher than Apple and Android.

Technology page SlashGear said the statistics are for both Windows 8 and Windows RT, so it would be a lie to say that Windows 8 has surpassed Mac, which has 14,000 applications. If you include 370,000 existing iPad apps, the Windows Store is still inferior in number. Anyway 50,000 applications in four months are still respectable, and when more Windows 8 users and Windows tablets are available, we will see more achievements.
