II. What is Netflix and chill in Vietnamese?

In Vietnamese, the term Netflix and chill is often translated as Watch Netflix and relax or Watch Netflix and rest. However, this translation does not fully convey the original meaning of the phrase in English.

However, the word also refers to inviting someone to your home, creating a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Sometimes, it also includes an informal date or a more intimate situation. However, the phrase is often used humorously or subtly to hide its true meaning. Translating the full meaning of this word into Vietnamese can be difficult because of cultural connotations and communication situations.

III. Where did the term Netflix and chill come from?

It all started with a tweet posted on January 21, 2009 by user NoFaceNina, with the content: I'm about to log onto Netflix and chill for the rest of the night. Although originally meant to just relax and watch movies, this phrase suddenly attracted attention and gradually became famous on social networks with associations to sexual relations.

IV. When did Netflix and chill become popular?

The term began to gain popularity from the late 2010s to early 2020, when it was widely circulated on the internet. The phrase gradually became part of online culture, referring to inviting someone to your home to relax and proceed to sexual activities.

Netflix and chill initially appeared on social media platforms and online forums, especially on Twitter, Reddit, and others, from around 2014 to 2015. Urban Dictionary, a slang term repository, added it to its database in April 2015. Since then, the phrase has become a cultural icon among young people and online.

In particular, the popularity of this phrase is also associated with the strong development of the Netflix streaming service. The global expansion and provision of a series of attractive entertainment content help attract a large number of users, while increasing the prominence of the phrase Netflix and chill.

Since then, the term has become an integral part of young people's language, often used to refer to a date that is intimate, casual, or even sexual in nature.
