To keep the Windows 10 redesign a secret, Microsoft pauses previews
Rumors of Windows 10's Sun Valley update have been around for a long time, dubbed 'Windows 11' by the press, which will be announced on June 24. Microsoft confirms, the company is on a multi-year journey to ' revolutionize' Windows user experience and the upcoming update will bring significant changes.
Users expect big things from the Sun Valley update, which is expected to update to preview channels later this month and officially launch in the fall.
Before the Sun Valley update announcement, Microsoft decided to test the 'service delivery system' for the Windows Insider Program and release cumulative updates as opposed to preview builds of new features. On June 8, a new Build 21390.1000 was released to the Dev channel and it is a cumulative update with no features or changes.
Microsoft officials say they need to test cumulative updates to address bugs that appear in pre-release builds. This is a common Windows process.
Additionally, Microsoft explains that it also needs to test the "service delivery system" to detect and resolve potential errors in the system before providing actual preview builds.
'The system in which we deliver updates (the service delivery system) on pre-release builds needs to be tested. It's not just about bugs in the build, but also bugs in the systems we use to apply these updates across builds' - Brandon LeBlanc - Senior Program Manager at Windows Insider - information.
There won't be any new builds until June 24. It makes sense to pause the rollout of preview builds. Because, Microsoft wants to keep secrets and surprise users with a completely new makeover of Windows.
According to Windowslastest, Microsoft has been testing Windows 10X 'branches' for Windows 11/Sun Valley features, such as Action Center and Start Menu.
