The latest Windows 11 update supports Android apps and improves the Taskbar.

Microsoft announced today its plans to release several new Windows 11 updates next month, bringing improvements to the Taskbar, a new Notepad experience, and a Media Player. Most notably, it includes a public preview of support for Android apps.

In a blog post, Microsoft's Panos Panay stated that Windows 11 is entering the final stages of its general rollout across compatible devices. Additionally, users are spending 40% more time on Windows 11 PCs than on Windows 10 PCs . Traffic to the Microsoft Store has also tripled.

Furthermore, the Redmond giant also highlighted how the Covid-19 pandemic has changed users' habits and lifestyles. Over the past two years, the number of people using online communication software has increased sixfold, the number of PCs used for shopping has doubled, and the time people spend shopping online has increased by 40%. Similarly, monthly gaming time has increased by 35%, while time spent on streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube has increased by 70%.

Regarding the next steps, the "new experience" will arrive in Windows 11 this coming February. Key features of the update include a public preview of Android apps on Windows 11 via the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), improvements to the Taskbar, the return of the weather widget, and redesigned Notepad and Media Player applications.
