Steam will stop supporting old versions of Windows from January 1, 2024

Users will have to upgrade to Windows 10, Windows 11 or the upcoming Windows 12.

Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have become outdated operating systems, no longer supported by Microsoft updates. Therefore, the fact that Steam is about to stop supporting these Windows versions is a move consistent with current technology development trends.

Currently, about 1% of Steam users, equivalent to about 12 million people, are using old versions of Windows, according to a Steam survey in November. The estimated total number of Steam users by December 2023 is about 1,000. 2 billion people. Thus, a significant number of users are still using older versions of Windows.

Ending support for older versions of Windows will mean that users will no longer be able to access and play games on Steam if they are still using these versions.

Thus, there is only a short time left before many players on older platforms will no longer be able to use Steam. They will have to choose to upgrade to the latest version of Windows to continue experiencing games on Steam or lose access to Steam if they continue to use older versions.

Upgrading to the latest versions will give users access to new features and improvements while also ensuring system security and stability.
