Microsoft reminds users that Windows Server 20H2 is about to be discontinued

In fact, Microsoft has planned to stop rolling out new security updates for all versions of Windows Server, including version 20H2, on August 9, 2022.

Earlier this year, Microsoft officially announced the end of support for individual user versions of Windows 10 20H2 (Home and Pro editions), and now it's time to say goodbye to Windows Server 20H2. The Redmond company recently conducted an update to Windows Message Center, which added an important message, reminding users of the end of support (or in other words, death) of Windows Server 20H2.

In fact, Microsoft has planned to stop rolling out new security updates for all versions of Windows Server, including version 20H2, on August 9, 2022. Thus, the updates. The upcoming periodic August Patch Tuesday will be the final release that Microsoft rolls out for this operating system.

It should be noted that in addition to ending support for Windows Server 20H2, Microsoft is also ending support for Windows Server Semi-Year Channel (SAC). Semi-Annual Channel is essentially about providing faster access to new features and capabilities. Therefore, its support period is only 18 months. Microsoft does not plan to maintain new SAC releases after Windows Server 20H2 officially expires, and the main channel for Windows Server is currently the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

Microsoft recommends that people who are still using Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel quickly switch to Azure Stack HCI or use the operating system's Long-Term Servicing Channel. The Long-Term Servicing Channel will be actively supported for 5 years, with an additional 5 years of extended support. Which means the latest Windows Server 2022 release will remain "live" until at least October 14, 2031.

As for individual user versions of Windows, Microsoft currently maintains active support for three editions: Windows 10 21H1, Windows 10 21H2, and Windows 11 21H2. Version 21H1 will 'expire' at the end of this year, December 13, 2022 to be exact, users note!
