Russian security company Kaspersky Lab has warned of a new virus that could be used by hackers to steal information on ATMs .

According to the director of this company, Alexander Gostyev: ' This is a dangerous program, making ATM cards infected with viruses capable of penetrating customer accounts to steal information and withdraw money '.

Earlier, a Russian antivirus company, Doctor Web, said it had found a virus at the closed ATM networks of Russian banks that could collect information from ATM cards.

According to Gostyev, the Trojan virus can penetrate American Diebold ATM cards commonly used in Russia and Ukraine. He said that studying the code shows that the virus is likely to come from programmers of one of the former Soviet republics. According to him, considering all types of ATM cards, the risk is still low. He added that ATM card holders cannot know if their card is infected with the virus, but the bank can run the program to detect an infected ATM.
