iPhone 15 Pro Max increases performance by up to 25% after upgrading to iOS 18

Apple Intelligence requires an A17 Pro chip or stronger, only iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support it.

The first performance benchmarks on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max after updating iOS 18 have appeared. This new operating system helps the Neural Engine (iPhone's AI processor) significantly improve, helping iPhone 15 Pro Max handle machine learning tasks up to 25% faster.

iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.5.1 scored about 6000 benchmark points on Geekbench for the Core ML Neural Engine Inference Score test. But with iOS 18, iPhone 15 Pro Max running the beta version reached 7816 points - up to 25% faster than iOS 17.

According to Apple's predictions iOS 18 will help iPhone 15 Pro Max achieve outstanding performance for many different machine learning models, including ALBERT (66% improvement), MobileNetV3 (2% improvement), MobileViT v2 SSD ( 700% improvement.

iOS 18 optimization has made an impressive leap forward. Part of the performance boost can be attributed to Apple's MLTeensor, a type of Core ML (a platform for machine learning). According to Apple, the combination of MLTensor and tweaks in iOS 18 will help performance for various machine learning tasks on iPhone 15 Pro Max significantly improve.
