Instagram allows blocking users
Finally, Instagram also offers a user-enabled feature (mute) so that others' posts don't show up on your Home page. New updates will be released in the next few weeks, allowing removal of not only photos but also Stories from your Instagram. When blocking, you can still view their Profile, cancel it at any time and they are completely unaware.
Of course, you can still choose to unfollow but sometimes it is very delicate. For example, I missed following a friend because they thought they were cool or they followed it first and you just followed it and politely followed it, but didn't want them to know that you canceled it (just because they posted dozens of photos for example, the new feature is very useful.

Social networks often take a long time to launch blocking features, perhaps because they want you to interact more instead of closing yourself. But the longer the more users, the more their News Feed becomes a mess, but the features like blocking will help a lot.
