How to use 7Zip to encrypt files and folders on Windows 10

Instructions for encrypting data with 7Zip on Windows 10

With this tutorial, you can use 7Zip to encrypt files, folders on Windows 10 and previous OS versions easily.

Step 1 : Download and install 7Zip. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Step 2 : Go to where the file or folder is to be encrypted, right-click and select 7-Zip > Add to archive.

Compress files or folders you want to encrypt using 7-Zip

Step 3 : In the Add to archive dialog box, enter the name and click the 3 dots button to select the destination for the file you want to encrypt.

Step 4 : Select Archive Format as ZIP or 7z. In the Encryption box , select Encryption Method which is AES-256 instead of the default ZipCrypto .

Step 5 : Enter the password to protect the file and re-enter it to confirm. This is the password used to unlock the file. Users are encouraged to use at least 1 number, 1 capital letter, 1 lowercase letter and special character.

Step 6 : Click OK to complete. Based on the number of files, directories, data sizes and even computer configurations, the task completion time will vary.
