What is Firmware for Router?
Basically, the Firmware for Router is an operating system specifically designed to run on a specific model and router model (unless you are using a multi-router compatible open source firmware like DD-WRT ). .
Typically, the router router manufacturer will provide firmware updates for the specific router model and router, via their official website or via the router administration panel tool (usually accessible via web browser).
Why do you want to upgrade the Firmware for Router?
Actually, there are many reasons for you to consider updating the firmware for the router and here are a few of them.
Security features and fixes
One reason why your router router manufacturer might offer a firmware update is because they are trying to fix a bug that has been detected in the current firmware, the firmware upgrade is similar to the System update (as in Windows Update of Microsoft). When an error is found and repaired, the firmware upgrade is released.
Router manufacturers may also release firmware updates to upgrade features such as outdated encryption modules or may add completely new security mechanisms not included in previous versions of the firmware.
Performance improvements
Besides security fixes, your router router manufacturer may have found a way to improve the overall performance of the router , which is always good. If you do not update your firmware, you will not be able to take advantage of any speed update improvements that your router router manufacturer releases in the update.
How to perform Firmware upgrade
Each router is different, but usually, they have a similar procedure to upgrade the router's firmware. Here are the basic steps to perform a firmware upgrade , check the router router manufacturer's website for specific instructions for your brand and model.
Step 1: Log in to your Router administration console
Most modern router routers use web-based administration , which means you must type the router's IP address to access administrative functions. This IP address is almost a private IP address, usually accessed from your home network. This helps prevent outsiders from trying to manage your router router.
Each router manufacturer uses different default addresses when checking the router router manufacturer's website for details about a router you use. Many routers use 192.168.1.1 as the default address but it is subject to change.
Here are some common default addresses for some of the popular wireless router brands (wireless routers):
- Apple: 10.0.1.1
- Asus: 192.168.1.1
- Buffalo Tech: 192.168.1.1
- Dlink: 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1
- Cisco / Linksys: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
- NETGEAR: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.227
After entering the router router's IP address into the browser address bar, you will be prompted for the administrator name (usually "admin" or "administrator") and the default admin password.
This information is obtained from the router manufacturer's website or they may be located on the adhesive label below or behind your router router, usually near the router's serial number.
Step 2. Find the administrative control panel of the Firmware upgrade
Typically, there is a dedicated firmware upgrade section on the router administration page. It can be placed in the Router Setup page, the "About This Router" page, or it may be under the "Maintenance" or "Firmware Update" heading.
Step 3. Download and install Firmware Router (from reliable source)
Newer routers will make it easier to download and install the Firmware directly from the router administration controller.
Some router routers may first ask you to save the file to your computer and then select the Firmware file through the administrative control panel.
No matter how you proceed, make sure you are downloading directly from the manufacturer or from another reliable source (if using an open source router firmware). If possible, scan the malware file before performing the firmware upgrade.
IMPORTANT NOTE : Do not interrupt the firmware upgrade process in progress or may damage the router. Try to avoid performing firmware upgrades during a storm and sudden power outages.
