How to remove text from an image using Photoshop - Using the text removal tool

Quick guide

  1. To remove text from a low-detail image : Right-click the dashed square icon and select the Rectangular Marquee Tool , or press the M shortcut key to open the selection tool. Left-click and select the text in the image. Then click Edit on the toolbar and select Fill , or press Shift + F5 to open the Content Aware tool . Select Content-Aware in the Contents section. In the Blending section , set the Mode to Normal and Opacity to 100%. Then click OK to remove the text from the image.
  2. To remove text from a highly detailed image : In the toolbar, click the Magic Wand Tool icon or use the shortcut key W to select the text in the image. Press Shift and then click the tool on each word in the image. Click Edit > Fill > Content-Aware to remove the text, then click OK. Continue by clicking the Rectangular Marquee Tool (square) to select the faint text in the image. Click Edit > Fill > Content-Aware to remove the faint area.

1. Remove text from a low-detail image using Photoshop.

For example, take the image below; it has a simple background with few details, and the text is also written on a simple background.

Step 1:

In the Photoshop interface, right-click on the dashed square icon and select Rectangular Marquee Tool , or press the M shortcut key to open the selection tool.

Step 2:

Next, left-click and select the text area, then circle it on the image.

Step 3:

Click on the Edit tab in the toolbar and then select Fill , or you can press the shortcut Shift + F5 to open the Content Aware tool.

Step 4:

In the new interface, click on Content-Aware under Contents.

In the Blending section, set the Mode to Normal and the Opacity to 100%. Then click OK to proceed with removing the text from the image.

The result will be an image with the text removed, as shown below. The image will not be blurred or discolored when the text is removed.

2. Removing detailed background text from an image in Photoshop

For images with a lot of detail, removing text will be relatively manual and require more steps. We won't use simple tools like the ones above. If we do that, the image will become blurry, lose its aesthetic appeal, and appear less professional.

For example, we will delete the image with inserted text as shown below.

Step 1:

On the toolbar, click the Magic Wand Tool icon or use the shortcut key W to select text within the image.

Step 2:

Users need to press Shift and then click the tool on each letter in the image . You need to hold down the Shift key until you have selected each letter. Note that when selecting letters, you need to select enough strokes for each letter.

Step 3:

Next, click on Edit , then select Fill , and finally choose Content-Aware to delete the text.

Step 4:

When you press OK, the text will essentially be deleted, leaving only faint red outlines as shown below.

Continue clicking the Rectangular Marquee Tool (square icon) to select the faint text in the image for deletion. After selecting the area, click Edit , choose Fill, and then select the Content-Aware tool to remove the faint text.

If you want to remove a large blurry area from an image, you should select smaller areas and remove them gradually to prevent the image from becoming blurry.
