How to install and set up the software to create VirtualBox virtual machine version 5.xx
In the previous article, I have detailed instructions for how to create a virtual computer with VirtualBox software, and there are many of you who have successfully done with the article that I instructed. In the new 5.xx version this time, the way is completely similar to the previous 4.xx version only, but the installation process is a little different. Therefore, I will guide you more in this article, if you do not understand where you can comment below, I will support you as soon as possible. And you note that I only write instructions when there is a change to that software, otherwise I never rewrite.
What does the virtual computer software do, I have said it very clearly in the previous article. If you do not understand its effects, you can search through the Search bar on the blog. Okay, and now we get to the main point too.
1 / Install VMware 5.xx virtual computer
+ Step 1: You download the VirtualBox software version 5.2.0 here / backup link (This is the version I wrote the tutorial for).
Note: You can go to the homepage to download the latest version here.
+ Step 2: After downloading the software, double-click or right-click and select Run as administrator to run with administrative rights => click Next.
+ Step 3: Keep the default => click Next to continue.
Note: By default, the software will be installed in drive C (the drive containing the operating system). However, if your C drive is about to be full or you want to install to another partition so that when reinstalling Win, it will not be lost, you can choose to another partition. Click Browse to select the partition you want to install.
+ Step 4: Continue to click Next.
Select Yes.
Select install to begin the extracting process.
+ Step 5: Select Yes to agree to run.
The extracting process of the installer is going on, please wait a moment.
+ Step 6: If in the extraction of the compressed file, the software requires anything, just click Install to install.
Continue to select Install at the Would you like to install this device software window?
Select Install .
+ Step 7: Okay, the installation is done.
2 / Setup and create virtual computer before installing win or ghost
Note: You can set up according to the instructions in version 4.3.28 also, but in this new version I will set up a little bit differently.
+ Step 1: The interface in version 5.2.0 will be as shown below. Click New as shown below.
+ Step 2: You set up as follows:
- Name: Name the virtual computer.
- Type: Select the operating system that you want to install on a virtual computer, for example Linux, Windows . Here I want to install Windows, so I will choose Microsoft Windows.
- Version: Select the version of Windows you want to install. (Click here to download the original Windows installer)
=> Then click Next to continue.
+ Step 3: Set up RAM for the virtual computer. This RAM setting depends on many factors:
- Does your real RAM have a lot? If your real RAM is 4GB, you can leave virtual RAM as 1024 (1GB), 8GB RAM, you can leave virtual RAM as 2048 (2GB).
- Which version of Windows will you install on the virtual computer? If you only install Windows XP, you can leave the virtual RAM of 800 MB to operate comfortably. If you want to install Windows 10 on a virtual machine, you should leave at least 1024 MB of RAM.
For VirtualBox software, you can only set a maximum of 2 GB for virtual RAM only.
+ Step 4: You tick the line Create a virtual hard disk now and click Create to continue.
+ Step 5: In the Hard disk file type, there will be 3 default options that the software encourages us to use are:
- VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image): This is the virtual drive format of VirtualBox.
- VHD (Virual Hard Disk)
- VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk): This is the virtual drive format of VMware software, it is compatible with most virtualization platforms.
This step in the tutorial in VirtualBox version 4.3.28 I chose to be HDD (Parallels Hard Disk), many of you install this new version but do not see it, so an email asks me. That's why there are tutorials for you.
Not that VirtualBox removes the HDD (Parallels Hard Disk) type, but they just keep it hidden. You click on Expert Mode and you will see immediately.
Here, there is HDD (Parallels Hard Disk) option for you. And if you choose this type, the article will bring about the same instructions as in VirtualBox version 4.3.28 that I guided earlier.
=> In general, you can choose any type, but in this tutorial I will choose the type as VHD (Virual Hard Disk). In the File location section, click the folder icon (1) to select the partition to save Windows virtual.
Note: This step you should select a partition that has a lot of free space to save, otherwise you can keep the default.
Next in the File size section you can choose the size for the virtual computer. This depends on the virtual Windows hard drive partition you chose in the step above. In my opinion you should let 20 GB to 30 GB is beautiful, you can choose a maximum of 2TB (ie 2000 GB for the virtual machine).
=> Then click Create to create.
+ Step 6: Click on Setting as shown below.
+ Step 7: Go to the tab Storage => click the icon of the disk as shown below.
+ Step 8: Select Choose disk as shown below => Then find your Windows installation location.
+ Step 9: Now go to tab System => uncheck the line Floppy go => then move it downwards.
+ Step 10: Select the Network type, the default is NAT, now switch to the Bridged Adapter type as shown below.
Note: If you want to know the different types of NAT and Bridged Adapter, you can read in this tutorial.
Then click OK to close the Settings window.
3 / Install Windows or Ghost on Virtualbox virtual computer
+ Step 11: Now start installing Windows, click the Start button to start the installation process.
If you want to install Windows or a ghost, you can review the instructions in the previous version because I have already detailed instructions (Link guide). This article I just talk about how to install VirtualBox software as well as how to set it up.
Epilogue
