How to change DNS settings on Apple TV

There are alternative DNS services out there like OpenDNS or Google Public DNS. And just last year, Cloudflare launched DNS 1.1.1.1 service. In fact, there is even a Cloudflare DNS application . It allows you to change your DNS service on iOS or Android devices at the touch of a button.

But if you want to change the DNS service on Apple TV, you need to access and perform it manually. Here is how to do it.

How to configure DNS settings on Apple TV

1. Turn on Apple TV and go to Settings > Network , then select your network. It will display WiFi or Ethernet depending on how Apple TV is connected. Next, scroll down and select Configure DNS.

2. On the following screen, select Manual.

3. Now enter the address of the DNS service you want to use. For example, here the article is using the Cloudflare service. Therefore, 1.1.1.1 is entered as 001.001.001.001. Or, if you are using OpenDNS, you will set it to 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220.

For any services that you end using after setting the IP address, select the Done button .

That is all there is to it! Now, it's worth noting that if you change your DNS settings while using WiFi and you'll hardwire later, the DNS settings will automatically come back.

Change DNS settings on other devices

Although changing the DNS settings on a WiFi router is easier, you can also perform DNS configuration on individual devices. This way, your device can take advantage of that service regardless of the network it connects to.
