After being told by Forbes magazine about the problem of costing the laptop battery of Chrome browser, Google made a formal announcement and promised to fix the bug in upcoming versions.

Accordingly, even if no action is taken, Chrome will not let the processor of the computer go into sleep mode. Instead, Chrome will run in the background and keep the system wake-up cycle at a high level of 1ms.

By comparison, Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser only speeds up processor awakening when performing heavy tasks like watching YouTube, then returns the system wake-up cycle immediately to 15.625ms. According to Microsoft, setting a cycle at 1ms will make laptop batteries run up to 25% faster depending on the laptop's hardware configuration.

It is worth noting that this is not a new error that occurs because of an update. According to Forbes , Chrome's battery-wasting problem has been mentioned since 2010. Meanwhile, Chromium's bug tracking tool has also posted the issue since November 2012. So, if you feel your Windows laptop has an unexpected battery life, the cause may be Chrome.

The good news is that Google has officially voiced this error. Talking to PCWorld technology site, the company said the battery error was received by the Chrome team internally, although only after Forbes reported. This has become one of the priority errors to fix in upcoming updates.

During that time, you can turn off Chrome if you don't use it, or switch to using a different browser.
