Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot be opened after updating Windows 10, 11
But it seems that this update brings trouble for users of browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.
Specifically, many users report that after updating Windows, their computers can no longer open the above browsers. When they open it, they just get the message that "The application was unable to start correctly (0x000002). Click OK to close application".
"After installing the latest update, I got error 0x000002 when I opened Edge, Firefox and Chrome. Fortunately, other browsers like Vivaldi and Brave were working fine. When I removed the update, everything worked fine. things resolved quickly," one user shared.
Initially, it was assumed that the problem was with the Windows update incompatibility with browsers. But according to Windowslatest, the real problem lies with anti-virus software like ESET. There was a conflict between the Windows update and the anti-virus software that resulted in the browsers being blocked from starting.
As such, this problem only occurs for Windows users who have the above browsers installed and anti-virus software like ESET. The ESET side said they have grasped the issue and are passing it on to the development team to study and find a fix.
Due to the very serious nature of the patched vulnerability, if you encounter this error, do not uninstall the Windows update, but temporarily use alternative browsers until the patch is released.
