Apple launches a free iPhone 12 repair program with audio problems

The program applies to iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

Apple has just launched a free repair program for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro with audio problems due to a problem with the receiver module.

According to Apple, this issue affects a small number of iPhone 12s manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

"Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro may experience audio problems due to a failure of the receiver module," Apple said in a just-released support document. "If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro doesn't sound from the receiver when making or receiving calls, you'll be eligible for the free repair program."

Customers with problems can request a free repair through:

  1. Apple Authorized Supplier
  2. Apple Store
  3. Or an Apple (Authorized) Repair Center after arranging a repair through Apple Support

Apple recommends users to back up data to iCloud before taking the device to repair to avoid data loss. In addition, Apple also notes users some of the following issues:

  1. The program does not apply to iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max
  2. The program only applies to affected iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro within 2 years from the first retail sale
  3. If a user's iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage that reduces the ability to complete the repair, such as a display button, Apple will repair the damage before fixing the audio problem free of charge.
  4. In some cases you may be charged for additional repairs

Apple used to run many free repair/replacement programs for their products if there was a problem.
