10 tips for using Windows XP
1. For information about machine status
Press Windows key + R, type cmd and press enter, then type syteminfo.If you want to save this information, enter the command systeminfo> info.txt to create a text file with the name info.txt.(Only applicable to Professional Edition).
2. Delete the file completely without using the Recycle Bin
Press Windows key + R , type gpedit.msc , select User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Component > Windows Explorer and select Do not move deleted files in the Recycle Bin settings . In addition, there are many options on the interface or system in gpedit .Some may stop the computer if you are careless.(Only applicable to Professional Edition
3. Lock your computer temporarily by double-clicking
Right-click on the desktop , select new > shortcut and enter rundll32.exe user32.dll , LockWorkStation in Location .Name the optional shortcut.Whenever you need to lock your computer, just double click on this shortcut.(Of course, you can still use the Windows + L key combination)
4. Sometimes there are hidden software which cause inconvenience when removing such as Windows Messenger
To fix, use Notepad or Edit to edit the text file at C: /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, find and delete the word hide. From now on, you can remove those software by going to Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> Add / Remove Windows Components.
5. XP also has some interesting new commands for DOS files
-eventcreate and eventtriggers to initialize and track system activities
-typeperf monitors the activities of various subsystems
-schtasks manages scheduled tasks under All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Scheule Tasks
6. XP supports the IPv6 protocol
However, users can only test on the LAN because most Internet service providers still do not support IPv6. To learn about IPv6, press Windows + R, type ipv6 install . (this command is safe and does not affect the network settings you are using), enter ipv6 /?
7. It is possible to stop running tasks on the machine with the taskill / pid command with the number of tasks, or the tskill command with the number of active programs. Similarly, the tasklist command provides information about system operations.
8. ZIP file in XP is considered as a folder, quite convenient for high-configuration machines . For slower computers, you can ask XP to treat the ZIP files independently of the system with the command regsvr32 / u zipfldr.dll. Otherwise, to cancel the above command, type regsvr32 zipfldr.dll.
9. Go straight to the account without entering your username and password
Press Windows + R, type control userpasswords2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer checkbox and click OK. At the Automatically Log On dialog box, enter the username and password of the account you want to use.
10. Run a program with multiple accounts in parallel without having to log in repeatedly
Right-click on the program icon and select Run As . enter the username and password of the account you want to use. This tip is quite effective when installing software, which currently requires administrative privileges to log in.
