Windows 8 does not support DVD and Blu-ray playback by default
In an effort to reduce the cost of the new generation operating system, Microsoft was forced to give up the playback of movies and music from the optical drive on Windows Media Player software.

If users want to read DVD or Blu-ray, they must buy more Windows Media Center applications or developed by 3rd party.
