This is a list of the most common passwords found in cyber security breaches 2019
Aside from security breaches and subjective human error, one of the leading factors behind a cyber attack is the use of passwords that are not strong enough.
A team of independent (anonymous) security researchers recently conducted statistics and compiled a list of the 200 most common password patterns that were leaked in prominent data breaches of 2019, and report back to security company NordPass.
NordPass then went on to collect and analyze a total of 500 million passwords leaked from other data breaches this year. The results did not surprise many people. The password patterns most commonly found in data breaches are extremely simple, easy-to-guess passwords that are set to 'yes', as follows.
Of the more than 3 billion records leaked from cyber attacks, the most common types of passwords include:
- Passwords are highly logical, easy to guess, made up of strings of letters created horizontally or vertically on the keyboard, such as "asdfghjkl", "qazwsx", "1qaz2wsx", etc.
- As many as 830,846 people simply set their password as 'password'.
- The way to set a password in a translucent or descending number format is extremely easy to guess like '12345', '123456', or '123456789' . still popular. Next 'test1' and 'password'.
- Common types of passwords containing female names including Nicole, Jessica, Hannah, etc. are also found in data breaches.
- Along with the simple serial number and common person name, other easy-to-crack password types found include simple strings like 'asdf,' 'qwerty,' 'iloveyou', etc.

Using passwords is simply putting yourself in danger. There are two big mistakes that people often make when creating an online account, that they accept weak passwords because they are easier to remember and use the same password for many online services. With data breaches becoming common and complicated nowadays, internet users need to minimize this mistake. Set strong passwords, multiple passwords for different accounts, and use additional password management tools if needed.
