Safari grew faster than Chrome in July
Apple 's Safari last month was reported to have grown the fastest ever used market share, surpassing the long - standing browser leading to the increase of Chrome.
Net Applications' Web statistics provider on August 2, 2011, said Apple's browser with the Mac, iPhone, and iPad trio has increased its market share by 0.6%, a large growth. most in 1 month, enough to reach a record 8.1% for July 2011.
According to Net Applications, iOS devices like the iPhone account for more than a third of Safari's browser market share.
While Safari grew for 17 consecutive months, Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) was down 0.9%, the biggest decline since January 2011, and by the end of July 2011 only 52.8% , a new step backwards for this browser.
If IE continues to decline at the pace of the last 3 months, the browser will fall below the critical 50% threshold in November 2011.
In addition to Safari, Google's Chrome is the only browser that has improved its market share in July, up 0.3% to reach 13.5% by the end of the month. This will help this browser exceed 15% in October 2011.
Both Mozilla's Firefox and Opera's Opera Software lost their position, only 0.2% and 0.1% respectively, causing more long-standing problems for the two browsers.
In late June 2011, Firefox launched a quick release schedule, which produced a new version every 6 weeks, currently accounting for 21.5% of all browsers, down more than 3% from Its peak rate in November 2009.
With only 1.7%, Opera is still at the level that the browser obtained in December 2007.
Net Applications said IE continues to lag rapidly because Windows XP users no longer use the browser. But this situation is different for Windows 7, according to Net Applications' Aliso Viejo in California (USA), when all versions of IE are combined, Microsoft's total market share of the real Windows 7 market. The increase was 0.2% to reach 54.8%.
When referring to Microsoft's decision not to support IE9 on XP, instead focusing on Windows 7 and Net Applications on August 1, 2011, said there were signs of Microsoft's strategy being effective. Recently, Microsoft has not bothered to criticize Windows XP, and recently told customers it is time to move on and abandon an outdated operating system for decades.
This is not easy to do, Net Applications has calculated the Windows XP usage share of 49.8% last month, but it seems that users understand what to do. In the past 2 months, XP's market share fell 3.3%; and this aging operating system has dropped 12% in the past year.
IE9 was released by Microsoft in March 2011 , currently accounting for 6.8% in all browsers, up 1.1% in July. For the first time, IE9's global market share is larger than IE7's market share.
The growth rate in July 2011 was lower than 2 months ago, when IE9 added 3.2%. The decline rate may be because Microsoft has calculated the download and installation of IE9 browser automatically on consumers' Windows 7 and Vista computers at the end of June 2011.
When only Windows 7 users, IE9 has a global market share of 18.5%, up nearly 3% from June 2011.
However, IE9's achievements still cannot compensate for the loss of other versions of IE. In July 2011, IE6 fell 0.9% to 9.2%; IE7 fell 0.3% to 6.3%; and IE8 plummeted 0.8% to 29.3%.
IE6's market share was below 10% for the first time since its release in 2001. Microsoft has boldly stopped supporting IE6, for the past 2 years they let customers know they need to retire. Use this 10 year old.
One sign that IE9 has not reversed the situation is because since this browser was introduced in March 2011, Microsoft has lost 3.1% of the market share , while Safari reached 1.4% and Google reached 1 , 9% .
StatCounter, a European company, Net Applications' rival, also said IE, Firefox and Opera lost market share in July 2011, but Chrome and Safari have expanded their market share. StatCounter with another usage count - not the same amount of data as Net Applications - has resulted in IE always being 42.5% lower, Firefox 28%, Chrome 22.1% and Safari only 5.2%.
Net Applications calculates the market share of browser usage with data obtained from more than 160 million unique visitors who have browsed 40,000 web pages monitored by their customers. Browser statistics can be found at this company's website.
